I always hated Jay Leno. I've been in the David Letterman camp up until he took the route of "political commentator" and started injecting that into his jokes.
And now I give Conan props because his show led me to one of my favorite hometown hero bands, The Burning Brides.

You might find Fox's ridiculous "Half-Hour News Hour" more to your liking then.

Not to mention Warren Zevon (a heavy favorite sardonic singer-songwriter) used to fill in for Paul Shaffer (god, I'm old...). But yes, that is exactly why I stopped watching him; his heavy partisanship is saturated in most things he does now.

Shooting Richard Simmons with a fire-extinguisher is probably one of the most funny things I have seen. I like the top ten lists, it is stuff like Great Moments in Presidential Speeches, that just reek of partisanship.

Ha ha ha ha, it was always memorable whenever Richard Simmons was on the show... and it was because of that fire extinguisher incident that Mr (?) Simmons didn't come back on the show for a very long time.
I've never seen that bit with Great Moments. I stopped watching by that point. Actually, I think I stopped watching when he stopped giving away hams. Or at least it became few and far between. I always loved that. Always wanted to get a ham myself!
And I forgot to mention, Jon Stewart will never be Craig Kilborn in my eyes. I miss the "3 Questions" segment at the end of an interview! But Jon Stewart has his moments. I'm more of a Stephen Colbert man.

Alas, I was too late to catch the Craig Kilborn years, however, and this is truly terrifying, Stewart has done some of the most thought provoking interviews I have seen. Just goes to show what a crappy state the rest of American media is in when a comedian is better than a journalist. (throws multiple steel-toed boots at every single member of the journalistic media).

I do agree with that. I'll always love the classic appearance on the late CNN show, Crossfire. Man says everything I'd say. Although I get sad in the appearance because Tucker Carlson acts like a complete douche. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE

That makes you sad? That makes me laugh. That appearance has something for everyone: for the liberals it has Jon Stewart being himself, for the conservatives it has two guys on CNN looking like assholes.

I get sad because for some crazy reason, I tend to not mind Tucker Carlson. But in that video up there, he's a complete douche. It makes me cry that he's on Fox News now also...
Jon Stewart, regardless of his liberal leanings, addresses one of the most poignant issues regarding the state of American media. I don't want arguing, bang, explosions, excitement. I want discourse and debate if the show markets itself as a show with discourse and debate. What we have now only deepens the lack of civil discourse within my generation (and for the youngins generation too!).
To tell a story:
Back in the summer of 2006, I finished playing a show at a bar, had a shit load of whiskey (as any rock 'n roller should), stepped outside for a smoke, and got into a conversation with this guy. The conversation took a political tone where he started bashing Mr. Bush without presenting any arguments besides the rhetorical mish mash any idiot can be indoctrinated with. I proceeded, drunkenly mind you, trying to engage in a discourse with this fellow about my age of differing political leanings. He didn't like what I was saying. It was rather obvious as he threw up on my shoes. And drunkenly, my fist went into his face.
My suspicions were latter confirmed by my drummer, who was friends with the sister of this guy, who said that he was aiming for me. I mean really. That was and still is really gay.
At least my wrath was felt.

I'm more disappointed by Mike Huckabee than Tucker Carlson, perhaps because this scene always comes to mind when I think of him.
Good story by the way: I laughed, I cried. It moved me.

How can amyone be disappointed in Mike Huckabee? I love his show.
Your story was incredible. Your actions are an inspiration for me. I will remember, that if I ever meet someone that acts like CK in a bar, let them retch on your shoes so you can hit them in the face!
